Key Antioxidants

Antioxidants work as a network in the body to defend against Free Radicals that would otherwise cause damage to cells.  As an antioxidant network, the antioxidants synergistically support one another to defend the body as a team of antioxidant compounds more effectively than any one antioxidant can defend.  Each antioxidant has specialized capabilities that enable it to protect specific cell components, neutralize certain free radical compounds or reactivate partner antioxidants to enable the partner to perform another round of protection.  Since the body consists of trillions of cells, and there are potentially 10's of thousands of free radical attacks occurring in the body during any given second of time, having an adequate supply of the right antioxidant at the right place in the cell at the right time is important to prevent the free radical attacks that destroy cell structure and cause aging. The science supporting the benefits of antioxidants is significant enough that the National Cancer Institute states, "Considerable laboratory evidence from chemical, cell culture, and animal studies indicates that antioxidants may slow or possibly prevent the development of cancer."1

Common antioxidants in the antioxidant network include the following:

    * Lycopene
    * Beta-carotene
    * Lutein
    * Vitamin C
    * Vitamin E
    * Selenium
    * Coenzyme Q10
    * Vitamin A
    * Zeaxanthin
    * Astaxanthin
    * Canthaxantin
